Mexibera is proud to introduce the world-famous Barro negro jewelry, the black mud is from San Bartolo Coyotepec; It emerged in the 1950s and is now one of the most recognized handicrafts in Oaxaca. It is the creation of Doña Rosa Real de Nieto, who discovered that by cooking the mud at a lower temperature and later polishing it with a stone similar to quartz, the mud became black and shiny.
The clay with which black clay is made is grayish in color and does not require dyes. The black color is produced because the mud is baked underground, and when all the oxygen is consumed, the mud oxidizes.
You can see all the love, care and dedication the craftsman put to make this necklace and transform it into a piece of jewelry. The black clay is made in Oaxaca, and no necklace is exactly the same. The indentations and decoration of each piece are different. The necklace is 7 in long and 2.5 width, weights 2-3/8 ounces. As they are handmade Every necklace is unique and may have some slight irregularities due to artisan process which it was produced, this makes your necklace unique.
Note:
Since this necklace is made of clay it might break if it falls to the ground, so be extremely careful taking care of your necklace against falling.
